Louisiana Road Skills Test Requirements (Title 55 Aligned)

Cost: $40

Basic Eligibility (All Drivers)

• Must have a valid Louisiana learner’s permit (TIP card)

• Must meet age requirements for the license class

• Must be medically and physically able to operate a vehicle safely

For Drivers Under 18 (Class E)

• Minimum age: 16

• Must have held permit for at least 180 days

• Must complete:

  • 30-hour classroom course

  • 8 hours behind-the-wheel training

• Must have parent or legal guardian present to sign

For Adults (18 and Older)

• Must have a valid learner’s permit (TIP card)

Must complete:

• 14-hour pre-licensing certification course to include:

• 6 hour class and 8 hours of behind the wheel instruction

Vehicle Requirements

• School vehicle will be used with no exceptions.

Documentation Required

• Valid TIP permit (you can text to our office at 318-202-9361 ahead of time)

• Proof of completed driver education course (if applicable)

• Parent/guardian present (if under 18)

• Parent/guardian must have valid LA Driver’s License.

The Road Skills Test:

• Conducted by:

  • Union Station 318 certified instructor

• Evaluates:

  • Vehicle control & Road

  • Obedience to traffic laws

  • Safe driving behavior

Upon successful completion

• Student receives a Road Skills Certificate

• Certificate is presented to OMV to:

  • Obtain license or

  • Upgrade from permit

  • A copy for insurance purposes
